InclusionHub founding member Be My Eyes (BME) has been nominated by the Webby Awards for its work helping blind and low-vision people lead more independent lives.

Voting for the Webby Awards, which is currently open, ends on May 6, with winners announced on May 18. The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is celebrating its 25th year honoring excellence on the internet.

More than 400,000 votes have been cast across a variety of categories since nominations were announced.

Be My Eyes was nominated along with four other platforms for public service and activism.

News of the recognition from the internet’s preeminent awards program comes as BME has made tremendous strides in helping visually impaired people globally with the assistance of an ever-growing network of devoted volunteers.

With 300,000 users and more than 4 million sighted volunteers, Be My Eyes is the largest blind and low-vision online community in the world.

"We are delighted not only to be featured among such prestigious companies but to be able to highlight the challenges facing the blind and low vision community that we serve,” says Be My Eyes' VP of Community Will Butler. “Our entire team is passionate about improving lives by increasing access, and it's wonderful to be recognized for that."

The nomination comes on the heels of other significant developments for the organization, including partnerships with Verizon and the U.K. Department of Health and Social Care.

Last December, Be My Eyes joined InclusionHub, a crowd-sourced database for digital accessibility resources, as a founding partner, further solidifying its position as a leader in digital accessibility.
